Man drowns trying to save friend in Turkey pond – Last Minute News

Tragedy at a Turkish Village Pond: Two Young Men Drown While Cooling off on a Hot Day

Four friends from Ağcaşar village in the southern Turkish province of Niğde decided to beat the heat by having a picnic in the nearby Sofular village in Gülağaç district of Aksaray. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a fun and relaxing day turned into a tragedy when one of the young men drowned and his friend lost his own life while trying to save him.

Yunus Arslanbay, one of the friends, entered the pond that shared the same name as the village to cool off. However, he began to struggle in the water, and Yaşar Yıldız, another friend, jumped in to help. Unfortunately, both young men disappeared underwater.

The other two friends notified the authorities, and a search and rescue operation was launched with the help of the police, a disaster and emergency management agency (AFAD), and medical teams. After an extensive search, the divers from AFAD found the lifeless bodies of Yunus Arslanbay and Yaşar Yıldız.

The cause of the incident is unclear, and it is unknown if the pond was equipped with safety measures or if the young men were aware of any potential risks. An investigation into the drowning is ongoing, and the bodies have been taken to Aksaray Training and Research Hospital for an autopsy.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can come with swimming or cooling off in bodies of water without proper safety measures in place. It’s critical for public bodies of water to have clearly defined safety protocols and signage, and for anyone venturing into the water to be aware of their abilities and potential risks. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the two young men who tragically lost their lives on what should have been a carefree summer day.
