Uchtepa District Court Punishes Offender for Broadcasting “Euro 2024” Matches Without Permission
In a recent case heard by the Uchtepa District Court of Criminal Cases in Tashkent city, a young individual identified as J.A., born in 2002, was found guilty of an administrative offense under part 1 of article 177-1 of the Administrative Responsibility Code.
The case revolved around J.A.’s actions of broadcasting the “Euro 2024” football matches on his Telegram channel “ASL FUTBOL LIVE” without obtaining the necessary permission from the rights holder, “TELERADIOKOMPANIYA ZO’R” LLC, who had the legal rights to live broadcast these matches.
During the court session, J.A. admitted to the offense, expressed remorse for his actions, assured that he would not engage in such behavior again, mentioned his unemployed and difficult circumstances, and appealed for leniency from the court.
As a result of the trial, the court ruled that J.A. was indeed guilty of the offense and imposed a fine of 340,000 UZS (equivalent to 1 BCA) on him. This decision serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating copyright and broadcasting rights laws, especially in the digital age where sharing content without permission can have legal ramifications.
It is essential for individuals and organizations alike to respect intellectual property rights and obtain proper authorization before sharing or broadcasting copyrighted material to avoid facing legal consequences similar to the one experienced by J.A. in this case.
