Bomb Threat Causes Evacuation at Manas International Airport
On June 13, 2024, Manas International Airport in Bishkek received an email warning of a bomb threat, leading to the evacuation of employees and passengers. The press service of the Main Internal Affairs Department of Chui region reported that an airport employee contacted the authorities after receiving the threat.
Law enforcement officers quickly responded to the scene, cordoned off the area, and evacuated individuals. Sappers and cynologists with dogs conducted a thorough search of the airport terminal but found nothing suspicious.
Following the search, the cordon was removed, and operations at the airport resumed as usual. The email threat indicated that the airport was mined, giving authorities five hours to prevent any potential consequences.
The Department of Internal Affairs of Chui region issued a warning that making bomb threats is a serious offense punishable by up to five years of imprisonment. Authorities are continuing to investigate the source of the threat to ensure the safety and security of the airport and its passengers.
