Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavaş Returns to Türkiye After İmamoğlu’s Detention
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who was in Taiwan for an international fair, has returned to Türkiye following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Yavaş flew back to Istanbul from Taiwan’s capital Taipei at 05:10 via Turkish Airlines (THY) and answered questions from the press at the Istanbul Airport VIP Terminal.
In response to allegations of a potential investigation, Yavaş stated, “I have been serving as mayor for 6 years. There have been 109 complaints filed against me, 101 of which were investigated and closed by property inspectors. They are free to investigate these claims.”
Yavaş also touched upon the current political climate in Türkiye, emphasizing the need for an open parliamentary system. Referring to Imamoğlu, he said, “We talk about the judiciary being neutral and independent nowadays, but certain individuals and commentators were making statements on television a few days ago. In Türkiye, we should strive for a system that is truly independent from the state.”
