Marine hunting prohibited starting April 15 – Updated News

The 2024-2025 hunting season in the Black Sea, which began on September 1, is coming to an end on April 15. Fishermen in Türkiye have reported a successful season with an abundance of acorn and mackerel fish, although anchovy numbers were not as high as expected.
Many fishermen have already closed the season early, while others are preparing to finish up their operations by April 15 in order to get ready for the next season. Birol Karadeniz, a fisherman and boat owner from the city of Samsun, described the season as “very nice” with plenty of acorn fish, although anchovies were scarce. He emphasized the need to start preparing for the new season by maintaining their boats and equipment.
Ali Karadeniz, another fisherman from the Black Sea region, spoke about the importance of sustainable fishing practices and following regulations to ensure the long-term health of the fish population. He highlighted the current ban on hunting Kalkan fish starting on April 15 and urged his fellow fishermen to respect the restrictions in place. Despite the successful season overall, Ali Karadeniz noted that the low numbers of anchovies meant that there could still be challenges ahead in the future.
