Masdar Wins Tender to Construct Solar Photovoltaic Station in Uzbekistan

In May 2023, Masdar, the Emirati renewable energy company, secured the tender for the construction of a solar photovoltaic station in the Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan. This project, with a capacity of 300 MW, will also include an electrical energy storage system with a capacity of 75 MW. To oversee the implementation of this project, Masdar established Nur Kashkadarya Solar PV LLC as part of a public-private partnership.

The total amount of foreign investment in this project is estimated to be $250.5 million. A presidential decree was issued to outline the measures for the construction and management of this solar power plant, emphasizing the importance of utilizing public-private partnerships in the country’s renewable energy sector.

As part of the agreement, JSC National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan will guarantee the purchase of electrical energy generated by the solar power plant for 25 years. Fixed tariffs have been set at $0.03 per 1 kW/h of electrical energy and $6.33 for each MWh utilized in the energy storage system.

Additionally, strict regulations have been put in place to ensure the efficient operation of the solar power plant. Construction of any objects within a 500-meter radius of the plant that could obstruct sunlight is prohibited to maximize the generation of solar energy.

With this initiative, Uzbekistan aims to enhance its renewable energy capacity and reduce its reliance on traditional fossil fuels. The construction of the solar photovoltaic station is a significant step towards achieving these goals and establishing a sustainable energy future for the country.
