Masdar’s $2.6 Billion Investment in Wind Farm and Energy Storage

Gezhouba Group to Install Batteries in Eight Regions of Uzbekistan
The Chinese company Gezhouba Group has finalized an agreement with MIIT and National Electric Grids to install energy storage systems in eight regions of Uzbekistan. This move comes as part of the country’s efforts to stabilize its energy grid and ensure power supply at night.
Masdar, an Emirati company, is also making substantial investments in Uzbekistan’s energy sector. Plans are underway for the construction of a 2 GW wind farm and energy storage facilities, with an estimated investment of $2.6 billion. This project is expected to increase electricity production by 7 billion kWh, providing power to over 1 million households.
The installation of energy storage systems will play a crucial role in balancing the difference between supply and demand during peak hours. According to Aziz Khamidov, head of the MIPT department, the new facilities will significantly contribute to stabilizing the operation of the energy grid.
In addition to the current agreements, Uzbekistan is also gearing up for the construction of 22 solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 9 GW. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has announced plans for green generation sources to provide 27 GW by 2030.
These developments mark a significant step forward for Uzbekistan’s energy sector, demonstrating the country’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity and ensuring a sustainable and reliable power supply for its citizens.
