Tragedy Strikes as Police Officer Found Dead in Forested Area
Authorities are investigating the death of police officer Hüseyin Tayfun Üçgül, who was found lying lifeless behind the wheel of a car parked in the Gökbel District of Ortaca in Muğla. Concerned individuals in the vicinity promptly alerted the 112 Emergency Call Center upon discovering the distressing scene.
Health and gendarmerie teams were immediately dispatched to the location after receiving the report. Preliminary investigations conducted by gendarmerie officers revealed that Üçgül, a father of three, had apparently taken his own life by a gunshot to the head. Following the necessary procedures, Üçgül’s body was subsequently transferred to the Muğla Forensic Medicine Institute Morgue for further examination and an autopsy.
The exact circumstances and causes leading to Üçgül’s untimely demise will only be determined after the completion of the autopsy. In the meantime, the investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing.
In a separate but related development, it has been revealed that Officer Üçgül was previously involved in a controversial altercation that resulted in his dismissal and the initiation of legal proceedings against him. According to an indictment prepared by the Manisa Soma Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, Üçgül was responsible for injuring a lawyer during a heated argument involving their respective vehicles, a Maserati and a car with license plate 34 BJC 892, on the İzmir-Istanbul highway on April 22, 2023, at approximately 17:30.
Reportedly, the argument escalated with both parties exchanging insults. Eventually, both drivers pulled over to the side of the road. The indictment states that during this encounter, Fatih Uzun attempted to strike Üçgül, but missed. In response, Üçgül kicked and injured Uzun’s knee, followed by a menacing remark, “You do not know who is who.” The indictment further states that Uzun threatened Üçgül, claiming to have connections with prosecutors and the mafia. He allegedly vowed to make Üçgül pay for his actions, adding, “This is not over here.” Uzun suffered a broken leg as a result of the incident.
Consequently, Üçgül is being prosecuted for “public insult” and “willful injury,” with a prison sentence of 6 years and 10 months being sought against him. It is noteworthy that Üçgül served as a police officer at the Dalaman District Police Department.
Following the altercation, the Ministry of Interior appointed an inspector to conduct an administrative investigation into the incident involving Üçgül. As part of the inquiry, the inspector also examined Üçgül’s conduct and assets as a law enforcement officer. As a result of the investigation, action against Üçgül is imminent.
