Massive Accident on Astana-Shchuchinsk Highway in Kazakhstan
A major accident occurred on the Astana-Shchuchinsk highway between the villages of Kogam and Karatal in Kazakhstan, involving nearly 100 vehicles. The collision was caused by thick fog and severe weather conditions.
The incident unfolded when the highway was closed at 7:00 a.m. due to the deteriorating weather. By midday, police and specialized equipment had arrived to help stranded drivers. Unfortunately, a collision occurred when the convoy heading towards Shchuchinsk encountered difficulties.
Preliminary reports indicate that the collision was triggered by a driver exceeding the speed limit, leading to a chain reaction crash. The Ministry of Emergency Situations in Kazakhstan dispatched 48 rescuers and 16 units of specialized equipment to the scene.
Efforts are currently underway to evacuate vehicles, and heating stations have been set up to assist drivers. Two individuals have been hospitalized as a result of the accident. The aftermath of the collision has caused a severe traffic jam stretching for kilometers.
The highway remained closed until 8:00 p.m., and in addition, 11 roads in six regions of Kazakhstan were shut down due to unexpected worsening weather conditions.
As the situation continues to develop, authorities are working diligently to manage the aftermath of this devastating accident.
