Kyrgyz Film “Paradise Under Mothers’ Feet” to Represent Kyrgyzstan at Oscars 2025
The Kyrgyz drama film “Beyish Enenin Tamanynda” (translated as “Paradise Under Mothers’ Feet”) directed by Ruslan Akun has been selected to represent Kyrgyzstan at the Oscars 2025 in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. Talantbek Tolobekov, a member of the board of the Union of Cinematographers of the Kyrgyz Republic, made the announcement on social media.
Describing Ruslan Akun as a talented film director with a global reputation, Tolobekov praised the film as a true masterpiece that has already captured the hearts of audiences at various international film festivals. He emphasized that the film is not just a work of art, but also carries a message of peace and goodness from the Kyrgyz people.
The film revolves around the story of 35-year-old Adil, a person with special needs whose mental development is that of an eight-year-old child. It showcases the incredible power of a mother’s love and has received acclaim for its emotional depth and storytelling.
Prior to its selection for the Oscars, “Paradise Under Mothers’ Feet” achieved success at the box office in Kazakhstan, generating over $1 million in revenue.
The 97th Academy Awards are scheduled to take place on March 2, 2025, in Los Angeles. The film is poised to represent Kyrgyzstan on the prestigious international stage, showcasing the country’s filmmaking talent and storytelling prowess.
