MEB’s Equivalence Regulation Published in Official Gazette

New Regulations for Education Equivalence in Turkey
The Ministry of National Education in Turkey has recently published new regulations regarding the equivalence process for education certificates. According to the Official Gazette, citizens within the country will need to apply to equivalence centers with their ID cards or national identity cards, while citizens of foreign countries will need to apply with their application ID documents. Those applying from abroad can make their applications to education counselors/attaches with their passports or ID documents.
The equivalence process will entail submitting originals of documents such as report cards, transcripts, education certificates, separation certificates, temporary graduation certificates, and diplomas. These documents should be from international primary and secondary education private institutions in Turkey or primary and secondary education institutions abroad. In cases where the originals are lost, photocopies approved by the relevant authorities can be used.
For individuals who are unable to submit the required documents, a level determination exam will be held. Additionally, students who arrive without a student certificate during the academic year will temporarily attend school based on a statement from their parents. Parents will be asked to provide the student’s certificate within three months.
In situations where individuals request equivalence due to war, disaster, or asylum, and are unable to provide documents, a level determination exam will be administered. Equivalence will be determined based on the exam results.
The number of courses and content successfully completed by the student will be evaluated, and equivalency will be granted accordingly. The student will be placed in an appropriate primary or secondary school level, class, field, department, or branch.
Documents required for the equivalence process include the MEB Equivalence Application Form filled out via the e-Equivalence system, along with the necessary supporting documents. It is important to note that students coming from schools under the Turkish Maarif Foundation Law or public and private schools in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will not be subject to the equivalence process.
Overall, these new regulations aim to streamline the education equivalence process and ensure that students are placed in the appropriate educational setting based on their qualifications and achievements.
