Meeting Between Akylbek Japarov and Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov

Bishkek – On May 24, 2024, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Japarov, met with the leader of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, during the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS countries in Ashgabat.

The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported that Serdar Berdimuhamedov conveyed greetings to President Sadyr Japarov, which were reciprocated by Akylbek Japarov on behalf of the Kyrgyz President.

During the meeting, Akylbek Japarov congratulated the President of Turkmenistan on the 300th anniversary of the classic of Turkmen literature, Makhtumkuli Fraghi. He also expressed gratitude for the opening of a monument to the great Kyrgyz writer, Chingiz Aitmatov, in the cultural park complex named after Makhtumkuli Fraghi.

Akylbek Japarov highlighted the importance of strengthening trade and economic ties between the two countries, focusing on issues of transit transportation, import of electricity, and other aspects of bilateral cooperation. The trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan in 2023 amounted to $63.546 million, indicating untapped potential for further growth in trade, economic, and investment relations.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed interest in enhancing mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries, paving the way for future cooperation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Akylbek Japarov mentioned that the Kyrgyz side is looking forward to the visit of the head of Turkmenistan and the national leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to Kyrgyzstan. This visit is expected to further strengthen ties and cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.
