Meeting between Azerbaijani Energy Minister and OPEC Secretary General focuses on energy cooperation
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, recently held a meeting with Haitham Al Ghais, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), in Baku. The discussions primarily focused on the cooperation between OPEC and Azerbaijan under the “Declaration of Cooperation” (DoC), as well as Azerbaijan’s involvement in regulating the global oil market and the current demand-supply dynamics and development trends.
The Secretary General praised President Ilham Aliyev’s significant role in promoting and implementing the OPEC Plus format initiative. He highlighted President Aliyev’s clear vision on energy security, oil and gas industry development, and investments, which opens up new opportunities for joint activities. Haitham Al Ghais emphasized the shared position between OPEC and Azerbaijan and expressed his satisfaction with the partnership.
The Secretary General emphasized that the main objective of cooperation within “OPEC Plus” is to ensure the world has sufficient energy for economic development. He highlighted the importance of utilizing all types of energy sources to achieve this goal.
Minister Parviz Shahbazov emphasized the need for cooperation on a broader platform that includes Azerbaijan, OPEC, other countries, and organizations. He emphasized the significance of sustainable energy security, particularly in the context of reducing carbon emissions in the oil and gas sector. Minister Shahbazov called for a collaborative approach to address this issue effectively.
