Meloni delays trip to Uzbekistan
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has decided to delay her trip to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in light of the recent passing of the Pope. The announcement was made by the Prime Minister’s Office, stating that the visit, originally planned for this weekend, will be rescheduled in the upcoming weeks.
The trip was set to begin on Friday with a visit to Samarkand, where Meloni was scheduled to hold discussions with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Following her visit to Uzbekistan, Meloni was supposed to travel to Kazakhstan for the first-ever “Central Asia – Italy” summit in Astana on April 27.
The Pope’s death on April 21, attributed to a stroke by the Vatican, has prompted many world leaders to adjust their schedules. Despite his declining health, the Pope made a public appearance on Easter before his passing.
