Meral Akşener’s Reaction to the “Secret Meeting”: Last Minute News from Turkey

Meral Akşener, the Chairman of the İYİ Party, has responded to allegations of a secret meeting with former CHP Deputy and ATO President Sinan Aygün. Akşener denounced the claims, stating that there was no such meeting and that it was a great act of disrespect to suggest otherwise.
During her party’s group meeting at the GNAT, Akşener was approached by journalists who questioned her about the alleged meeting with Aygün, as well as Cemil Çiçek and Abdülkadir Aksu, at the Togo Towers. It was rumored that she had offered Aygün a mayoral candidacy.
Refusing to address the question directly, Akşener expressed her apologies for not seeking permission from the press members beforehand and emphasized her commitment to obtaining consent from individuals she interacts with. She called the allegations disrespectful and reiterated that there were no secret meetings or negotiations.
The Party Spokesperson, Kürşad Zorlu, also weighed in on the matter, drawing attention to the ongoing attacks by Israel on Gaza. Zorlu condemned the acts of violence as crimes against humanity and emphasized the need for focus and attention on such matters. He dismissed the allegations about Aygün’s candidacy as baseless and clarified that their work regarding Ankara’s mayoral race was ongoing, with updates to be shared in the near future.
Overall, both Akşener and Zorlu have categorically denied the existence of any secret meeting or mayoral candidacy offer, emphasizing their commitment to transparency and addressing pressing global issues, such as the conflict in Gaza.
