
Merve Dincel Claims Gold at World Taekwondo Championships

Turkish athlete Merve Dincel has won the gold medal in the women’s 49 kg category at the World Taekwondo Championships held in Azerbaijan. She defeated the last Olympic champion, Panipak Wongpattanakit of Thailand, in the final to secure the victory. Speaking about her win, Dincel expressed her joy at becoming a world champion, saying, “There are Olympics next year. These are steps for the Olympics. I hope to win a gold medal in the Olympics, just like here.”
Dincel’s win marks a significant achievement for Turkish taekwondo, adding to her previous victory at the European Championships in 2022. The athlete thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Turkish Taekwondo Federation officials and trainers for their support.
Dincel’s success in Baku adds to Turkey’s overall medal count at the Championships, with fellow athletes Hüseyin Kartal and Enbiya Taha Biçer also competing in the men’s 80 kg and 87 kg categories respectively.
The World Taekwondo Championships serve as an important platform for athletes to showcase their skills and prepare for major international events like the Olympics. With Dincel’s impressive performance, she is now a strong contender for Olympic gold at the upcoming games.
