Meta to Enforce AI-generated Image Marking
Meta to Tag Images Created with AI Tools on Facebook and Instagram
Social media giant Meta has announced that it will start tagging images created with artificial intelligence (AI) tools from other companies that users share on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. The move is aimed at providing transparency to users about the origins of the content they see on the platforms.
In a statement, Meta emphasized the importance of users knowing whether the content they encounter was generated with AI. The company mentioned that while images created using the Meta AI feature on its platforms were already labeled with the “Imagined with AI” tag, the same will now be extended to content created with other companies’ AI tools.
Meta also revealed that it is working with industry partners to comply with common technical standards for identifying AI-created content. The company stated, “Being able to detect these will enable us to tag the images created by artificial intelligence that users share on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.”
The company disclosed that the feature has already been developed and that the labeling will begin to be applied in all languages supported by the applications in the coming months.
