MFA to Discuss Removal of Fees for Tinted Cars from Kyrgyz Republic with Uzbekistan
On April 12, 2025, the 24.kg news agency reported on a pressing issue concerning citizens of Kyrgyzstan traveling from Jalal-Abad region to Batken. According to deputy Dastan Bekeshev, Kyrgyzstanis are currently forced to pass through Uzbekistan, where they are charged $15 if the rear windows of their car are tinted.
In response to this issue, Deputy Bekeshev announced on his Telegram channel that he had received a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding a bilateral meeting with representatives of Uzbekistan. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the $15 fee imposed on Kyrgyzstani travelers, among other topics.
“We are neighbors and must make concessions to each other,” Deputy Bekeshev stated. “If they take $15 from us, then we can also introduce a similar fee for cars entering Kyrgyzstan from Uzbekistan. This additional revenue can be used to benefit our country, whether it be for building schools or roads.”
