MHP Provides Solutions to Combat Digital Addiction

MHP Offers ‘Fighting Digital Addiction’
MHP Kırıkkale Deputy Halil Öztürk has recently made a statement regarding the ‘Law Proposal on Combating Digital Addiction’, a proposal that carries his signature. According to Öztürk, this bill is groundbreaking not only in Turkey but also worldwide. Turkey, with its population of over 65 million social media users, ranks among the top countries in terms of the frequency of social media usage, which averages at least 7.5 hours per day. Unfortunately, many individuals in Turkey have already fallen victim to social media addiction.
The proposed law aims to establish a Coordination Board for Combating Digital Addiction, which will implement an emergency action plan as well as future initiatives to address the issue. Additionally, the law puts forth requirements for digital game companies to produce age-appropriate content, ensuring convenient access for users. To achieve this, the proposal suggests the establishment of a ‘Digital Game Commission’, which will involve various public institutions. The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) also bears significant responsibility as it will oversee the broadcast of public service announcements related to digital addiction, contributing to increasing public awareness.
Moreover, the Ministry of National Education will play an essential role in raising consciousness and awareness among the public. They will organize various training activities, awareness presentations, and educational programs. Deputy Öztürk emphasized that the ministry will closely monitor these initiatives to ensure their effectiveness.
If the proposal becomes law, it aims to establish specialized treatment centers called ‘Digital Addiction Treatment Centers’. These centers will house psychologists, psychiatrists, sociologists, child development specialists, and social workers who are experts in their respective fields. They will provide therapy and counseling services to those seeking help for digital addiction.
The Law Proposal on Combating Digital Addiction is a significant step towards addressing the growing issue of digital addiction in Turkey. By implementing strategies to raise awareness, regulate content, and provide specialized treatment, the proposal aims to combat this problem and support individuals struggling with digital addiction.
