Middle East Conflict: Israel Launches Land Attack on Lebanon
Israel’s Land Invasion of Lebanon Begins
In the wake of intense air strikes and escalating tensions, Israel officially announced the start of a land invasion of Lebanon, marking a significant escalation in the conflict between the two countries. The invasion, which began in the early hours of Tuesday morning, was announced to the world by international news agencies with the code “emergency” at 02.08.
Israel’s military actions in Lebanon have intensified in recent months, with targeted assassinations of top leaders of the Lebanese group Hezbollah, including Hasan Nasrallah. Since September 23, air strikes have caused widespread destruction and casualties, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.
The Israeli army, armed with warplanes, missiles, and tanks, has now entered Lebanon with the stated goal of establishing a ‘limited, local and targeted’ presence in the south of the country. The military aims to push Hezbollah fighters back north of the Litani River.
Hezbollah, Lebanon’s largest military force, has responded by targeting Israeli ground troops with artillery fire. Reports indicate that Israeli soldiers have been hit near the border line by Hezbollah forces.
In Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, residents are experiencing the impact of the conflict firsthand. Israeli jets have carried out low flights over the city, causing panic among the population. The Dahiye district, known as Hezbollah’s stronghold, has been repeatedly targeted, resulting in the destruction of multiple buildings.
Tragically, civilian casualties are mounting, with reports of at least 10 people killed in a house bombed by Israel in the town of Daoudiyah. Among the victims are members of the Diab family.
Israeli airstrikes have also targeted the Ayn al-Hil refugee camp in Sidon, as well as the Kevkebe-Marcayun highway. The attack on the refugee camp represents a significant escalation in the conflict, with at least five people reported dead and several buildings destroyed.
As the conflict continues to escalate, both Israel and Hezbollah are engaged in a deadly game of cat and mouse, with missiles flying back and forth across the border. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, as fears grow that the conflict could spiral out of control, leading to a full-scale war between the two countries.
