
Military Unit Commanders Under Investigation for Alleged Soldier Abuse

Three Commanders of Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Defense Suspected of Beating Soldiers
Bishkek – 15:28, 22 January 2024 – The Prosecutor General’s Office has reported that three commanders of the military unit of the Ministry of Defense of Kyrgyzstan are suspected of beating soldiers.
During an inspection, evidence of violence on the part of responsible officials of one of the military units of the Ministry of Defense against soldiers was revealed. As a result, a criminal case was initiated under Article 138 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to beating and torture.
The three commanders of military units of the Ministry of Defense have been taken into custody, and investigative actions are currently being conducted to identify other responsible persons involved in the crime.
The Ministry of Defense has yet to issue a statement on the matter. This incident raises serious concerns about the treatment of soldiers within the military and the responsibility of officials in positions of power. Further updates on the case are expected as the investigation unfolds.
