Minister Ataoğlu Discusses Tourism in Northern Cyprus
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu, recently appeared on the ‘Manşet+’ program on BRT to discuss various aspects of tourism in Northern Cyprus.
During the interview, Minister Ataoğlu emphasized the significance of the messages conveyed on the 50th anniversary of the Peace Operation, highlighting the unity and solidarity displayed during that time. He expressed his hope that the events of the past would not be repeated.
In response to questions about a motion passed in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Minister Ataoğlu assured that if such a motion were required, it would be passed unanimously. He also shared details about the ongoing promotional campaign “Island Cyprus” aimed at attracting more tourists from Turkey.
Minister Ataoğlu revealed that the campaign has been active for about 9 months, with the goal of inviting people from Turkey to visit Northern Cyprus. Utilizing television advertisements, social media, and collaborations with influencers, the campaign seeks to reach a wider audience.
Furthermore, Minister Ataoğlu mentioned efforts to enhance the operational capacity of the newly opened airport. He highlighted the increase in flights and planes, as well as the push for new airline companies to initiate flights to Northern Cyprus.
Regarding accommodation facilities, Minister Ataoğlu stated that work is underway to boost the number of beds and hotels in the country. Additionally, he discussed plans for the introduction of an ‘Airbnb’ law to regulate the rental of properties to tourists, ensuring proper monitoring and tax collection.
Minister Ataoğlu affirmed that the draft law is ready and will be presented to parliament for consideration. He emphasized the importance of swiftly passing the legislation to enhance tourism management and support economic growth in Northern Cyprus.
