
Minister Bolat predicts $60 billion trade volume between Turkish and German businesses

Minister of Commerce Ömer Bolat recently participated in the 20th Anniversary Gala of the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TD-IHK- TATSO) in Berlin. During the event, Bolat expressed his gratitude towards TATSO for their efforts in promoting trade and investments between Germany and Turkey over the past 20 years.
In his speech, Bolat highlighted the challenges faced by the global economy in recent years, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ukraine-Russia War, and food and energy crises. Despite these challenges, he noted that Turkey’s economy has continued to grow, with an increase in investment, production, employment, and exports.
Bolat shared impressive statistics demonstrating Turkey’s economic progress, including a sevenfold increase in exports over the past 20 years. He also emphasized Turkey’s success in various sectors, such as iron and steel, machinery, ceramics, textile, clothing, and tourism.
Regarding bilateral trade between Turkey and Germany, Bolat mentioned the goal set by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to achieve a trade volume of 60 billion dollars. He expressed confidence in the business communities of both countries to reach this target in the coming years.
The Minister also highlighted the significant role of German investments in Turkey, with German companies establishing over 8,000 local businesses in the country. He stressed the importance of the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry as a bridge between the two nations.
Bolat addressed the issue of updating the Customs Union between Turkey and the EU, pointing out the benefits and challenges of the existing agreement. He called for improvements to the Customs Union regime to enhance economic cooperation between Turkey and the EU.
In conclusion, Minister Bolat shared a personal story about his daughter’s battle with leukemia and expressed his gratitude for her recovery. He extended his well wishes to all patients facing similar challenges.
