Minister Muş Talks About New Plans for Oil Industry

Minister of Commerce and AK Party Samsun Deputy Candidate, Mehmet Muş, recently met with representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and businesspeople in Samsun Terme. With less than a week left until the elections, Muş emphasized the importance of the People’s Alliance succeeding in order for Turkey to become stronger.

During the meeting, Muş highlighted Turkey’s oil consumption between 800 thousand and 1 million barrels per day, with only 80 thousand barrels produced in the Batman region. However, the recent discovery of 100 thousand barrels per day in Gabar has the potential to meet 20-25 percent of Turkey’s oil needs. Muş expressed the need for exploration activities and drilling works to be carried out in areas cleared of terrorism and instability for these discoveries to be beneficial.

Implementing policies that promote the effective use of oil and natural gas reserves will require willpower. Still, Muş believes this could lead to Turkey increasing its GDP by $100 billion, with an additional $500 billion within five years.

Muş also spoke about the importance of opposition parties playing a principled role for Turkey’s interests, rather than merely gathering votes to gain power. During his visit, he also met with industrialists, tradesmen, and the public in Terme, accompanied by Terme Mayor Ali Kılıç, AK Party District Chairman Mümin Osman Ertan, and party members.
