Minister Yerlikaya: 97 Vandalism Suspects Detained
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that there is no room for vandalism and chaos in the ongoing demonstrations, revealing that 97 suspects have been detained in connection with the recent events.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is currently conducting investigations involving 106 individuals, including the President of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Ekrem Imamoglu. Imamoglu was detained during the investigation, and chaos ensued as some groups attacked police teams in Saraçhane following a call from CHP leader Ozgur Ozel to take to the streets.
Minister Yerlikaya emphasized in a statement on social media that the demonstrations will not be allowed to disrupt the peace and security of the nation. He asserted that those attempting to incite violence and vandalism will not succeed in their efforts to sow fear and chaos in the streets. Yerlikaya praised the dedication and professionalism of law enforcement officers who are working tirelessly to maintain order and uphold the rule of law.
