Reckless Incident at Ankara Courthouse Leads to Investigation
On April 23, an alarming incident occurred outside the Ankara Courthouse as a party vehicle ignored a prohibition on entry and proceeded to dangerously confront police officers. The driver, identified as İ.A., failed to obey a “stop” command from the police, prompting immediate action from law enforcement.
Witnesses reported that a police officer narrowly escaped being struck by the vehicle due to a quick reflex. Following this incident, the General Directorate of Security launched an investigation into the actions of the driver.
Interior Minister’s Statement
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya condemned the attack, labeling it “reckless and brutal.” In a social media update, he expressed his outrage over the incident, emphasizing that such actions pose a threat to peace, security, and public order. He reiterated the commitment of law enforcement to protect the nation: "Our police are at the service of our nation; they stand ready to defend it."
Minister Yerlikaya also shared footage from the incident, underscoring the severity of the attack against the female police officer involved. He assured that the legal system would respond appropriately to the incident.
Criminal Complaint Filed
The General Directorate of Security confirmed that a criminal complaint has been filed against İ.A. for a range of offenses, including “deliberate killing” and “deliberate wounding,” as well as creating a “danger to traffic safety.” The police stated that the vehicle was used as a weapon against an officer who was performing her duties.
Developments in the Case
In related news, CHP Deputy Adnan Beker’s driver was initially detained for resisting police orders but was later released under judicial control. The incident unfolded when Beker’s vehicle, which had been stopped due to traffic restrictions, attempted to move after the deputy exited the car to speak with officers.
An investigation into the actions of both Beker and his driver is currently being conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
