Ministries of Agriculture and Labor Sign Protocol to Enhance Occupational Health and Safety in Agriculture
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security have signed a cooperation protocol aimed at promoting an Occupational Health and Safety culture in veterinarians, engineers, and other field workers who serve under the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
During the signing ceremony of the “Occupational Health and Safety Cooperation in Agriculture” protocol, Dursun Oğuz, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, underlined the importance of offering awareness-raising activities and training to the ministry’s personnel on this issue. He stated that the ministry attaches great importance to the implementation of the protocol and aims to provide this training to every unit within the ministry.
Hasan Taçoy, Minister of Labor and Social Security, also emphasized the significance of this agreement and expressed his hope that it would prevent occupational accidents. He added that the ministry has begun a series of studies during the occupational health and safety week and that they would implement similar protocols in eight more occupational groups.
Under the protocol, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security will provide support in the form of training to veterinary engineers and other field workers operating under the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, as well as those working in the agricultural sector, to enhance their knowledge and awareness. Furthermore, the cooperation aims to conduct Occupational Health and Safety risk assessments in workplaces in the agricultural sector and provide follow-up methods for occupational hygiene deaths and occupational diseases.
Taçoy also emphasized that they plan to initiate occupational health and safety training for all municipalities with the Union of Municipalities following the signing of this protocol.
At the end of the ceremony, the ministers signed the document, marking the beginning of a new era of occupational health and safety culture in agriculture.
