Ministry Identifies Top 3 Districts Most Affected by Earthquake
Following the earthquake that struck the Marmara Sea off the coast of Silivri, the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Disaster and Emergency in Hasdal provided updates after conducting an evaluation meeting at the crisis center. The institution reported that this morning, they held meetings under the coordination of AFAD and conducted field investigations to assess the impact of the earthquake. They gathered information from citizens about damage reports and the ongoing work of ministry teams.
The institution stated that all teams are working diligently across Istanbul, with a total of 1756 damage reports received from citizens in Istanbul, Bursa, Balikesir, Tekirdag, and Yalova. Approximately 80 percent of the damage reports in Istanbul are concentrated on the Anatolian side. They noted that some districts were not in communication with the district directorates of disaster coordination.
As the number of teams from all over Anatolia increased, investigations and assessments continued. They reported that 28,538 public structures in Istanbul are being assessed, along with 36 student dormitories. No risks have been identified in the dormitories, and hospitals are being inspected promptly.
The institution emphasized the importance of using the results of the damage assessments and the Istanbul Risk Detection Reference for future transformation projects. They highlighted the urgency of addressing earthquake vulnerabilities in Istanbul and stated that this issue should not be postponed.
Warning that the future of Istanbul is at risk if transformation projects are not completed, the institution urged for immediate action. They stressed that Istanbul’s future is a matter of national security and called for mobilization to address earthquake risks.
The institution expressed gratitude for the safety of lives and buildings following the earthquake, noting that this serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness. They reaffirmed their commitment to working with citizens, municipalities, and government agencies to implement social housing and urban transformation projects.

The meeting was attended by government officials, including the Minister of Interior, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, and AK Party Deputy Chairman, as well as representatives from public institutions and organizations.
