Ministry of Energy Ensures Consumers Receive Desired Electricity Amount
Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev Addresses Electricity Supply Concerns in Kyrgyzstan
During a recent meeting of Parliament in Bishkek, Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev fielded questions about the possibility of private houses receiving more than 5 kilowatts of electricity. In response, the minister revealed that Kyrgyzstan currently faces an electricity deficit of approximately 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours, making it difficult for the ministry to allocate more power to individual households at this time.
To address this issue and ensure efficient electricity consumption, the ministry has implemented “smart” meters to monitor usage and promote consumer discipline. Starting next year, consumers will be required to sign contracts specifying the amount of electricity they wish to receive. This means that those in need of more than 5 kilowatts of power can request a higher limit, up to a maximum of 10 kilowatts.
By allowing consumers to tailor their electricity agreements to meet their specific needs, the ministry hopes to balance supply and demand effectively while encouraging responsible energy usage. As Kyrgyzstan continues to navigate its electricity challenges, initiatives like these aim to support a sustainable and reliable power infrastructure for the country’s residents.
