The Weeknd and Jenna Ortega to star in “Misery” adaptation
The mysterious project led by Jenna Ortega and The Weeknd has been the subject of much speculation in recent months. However, a new report from World of Reel has shed some light on the project, revealing that it will be a “loose remake” of Rob Reiner’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “Misery”.
Directed by Trey Edward Shults, the film will see The Weeknd playing a famous singer and Ortega playing his unstable fan/follower. The original “Misery” starred James Caan as a famous writer and Kathy Bates as his passionate fan, and Bates received rave reviews for her performance.
Shults, known for his work on films such as “Krisha”, “It Comes at Night”, and “Waves”, has teamed up with musician Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) on this new project. The film, which Shults co-wrote with Tesfaye and Reza Fahim, has already begun shooting and also stars Barry Keoghan, known for his role in “Saltburn”.
The untitled project also features cinematographer Chayse Irvin and composer OPN aka Daniel Lopatin, and is produced by Tesfaye, Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss.
Details about the plot of the film are being kept under wraps, but with shooting already underway, fans can expect more news about this exciting adaptation in the near future.
