Terrorist Attack on AK Party Provincial Headquarters Building in Iğdır
A shocking incident took place in the evening at the AK Party Provincial Headquarters building located in Emir Ensar Apartment in Bağlar District. The suspects, wearing ski masks, attempted to enter the building but found the door locked. In a desperate act, one of the suspects lit molotov cocktails and threw them into the building while others stood guard. Fortunately, the explosives did not fully detonate, but one did cause damage to the door.
Security camera footage captured the Molotov attack on the party building, revealing the terrifying nature of the incident. The AK Party Provincial Chairman, Ali Kemal Ayaz, condemned the attack as a terrorist act, emphasizing the ongoing fight against such violence. He stated that previous attacks on party buildings show the perpetrators’ desperation to create fear and insecurity.
Police Chief Niyazi Turgay confirmed that three individuals carried out the attack, with two suspects already apprehended. He also expressed his hopes for the speedy recovery of AK Party Provincial Chairman Ayaz. Notably, a similar incident involving a cleaver-wielding individual occurred at the same building on November 5, highlighting the ongoing security threats faced by the party.
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç denounced the attack as a threat to democracy and national unity, pledging to uphold solidarity and brotherhood in the face of such provocations. A judicial investigation has been initiated by the Iğdır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the detained suspects awaiting legal proceedings.
