A Mother in Kayseri Attempts to Kill Newborn Daughter
A shocking incident occurred in Kayseri, where a mother identified as AB attempted to kill her 3-week-old daughter, Melek. Reports indicate that AB first tried to suffocate the baby with a pillow while at her father’s house, and when she realized the baby was not dead, she then strangled Melek to death.
Following the horrific incident, AB was detained by the police and subsequently arrested and sent to prison. The Adana Forensic Medicine Institute found her to be “not mentally healthy.”
During the trial at the 4th High Criminal Court of Kayseri Courthouse, AB acknowledged her actions, stating that she smothered her daughter because she was crying and making noise. She further expressed her desire to serve her sentence and go to prison, stating, “I’m tired of everything.”
The court has postponed the case to a later date to address deficiencies and await the return of the file from the forensic medicine department. Additionally, it ruled that AB should be tried without detention.
