Bishkek Court Sentences Maya Aliyeva to Seven Years in Prison and Confiscates Property
In a recent development, a court in Bishkek has sentenced Maya Aliyeva, the mother of Kamchi Kolbaev, to seven years in prison and ordered the confiscation of her property, including the house she resides in. This verdict was delivered under the charge of “Money Laundering,” as reported by lawyer Baktybek Zhumashev to 24.kg news agency.
Despite the sentencing, it is important to note that Aliyeva, who is 76 years old, has the option of a suspended sentence with a probationary period of one year. This means that if she abides by the conditions set by the court and refrains from engaging in any criminal activities during this period, the sentence may not be enforced.
However, there has been disagreement with the court’s decision, and plans are underway to appeal the verdict. Zhumashev highlighted that the house in question is Aliyeva’s only residence in Bishkek, where she also receives necessary medical care. The decision has left Aliyeva’s children distressed, questioning where their mother will live if the property is confiscated.
It is worth mentioning that earlier, the sisters of the late crime boss Kamchi Kolbaev had requested for their mother’s house not to be seized. Additionally, Zholdoshbek Kolbaev, the brother of the deceased, has sought a meeting with the President, Sadyr Japarov, regarding this matter.
Kamchi Kolbaev met his demise on October 4, 2023, during a special operation in Bishkek. Following his death, 720 apartments linked to him and his relatives were transferred to state ownership, with some of the properties put up for auction. The organized crime leader was reported to have resisted arrest with arms, leading to his fatal encounter with law enforcement.
The repercussions of these events have raised concerns and sparked debates within the community, underscoring the complexities surrounding crime, punishment, and societal repercussions. It remains to be seen how Aliyeva’s case unfolds in the coming days.
