MSB Sources Respond with Last-Minute Meteor Missile Procurement for Greece

The Ministry of National Defense has responded to Greece’s reaction to France regarding the procurement of METEOR missiles. According to sources, the METEOR missile is a new generation, long-range air-to-air missile of European origin. The missiles are planned to be added to the inventory as part of the Eurofighter Typhoon Supply Project.
The Ministry reiterated that their priority is domestic and national weapons and systems. In this context, they plan to strengthen their Air Force with Gökhan Air-Air missiles, which are equivalent to the METEOR missiles being developed. Until the Gökhan missile is ready for deployment, the EUROFIGHER aircraft with the METEOR missiles will continue without any issues.
Syria’s new government takes control in Afrin
In other news, the Ministry of National Defense commented on the new administration in Syria taking control in Afrin. They emphasized the importance of the new administration asserting sovereignty over the entire country. Turkey continues to support Syria in cleansing terrorist organizations from the region.
There is a unified understanding between Turkey and the new Syrian administration regarding border security and the presence of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) in Syria. The Ministry stated that all threats and risks arising from the new situation in Syria are constantly being evaluated, and adjustments to troop presence may be made if necessary. Efforts to appoint a military attaché to Syria are also underway.
Steadfast Dart 2025 and Dacia Exercise updates
Ministry sources provided updates on the Steadfast Dart 2025 exercise, which tests Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece simultaneously. Greece’s attempts to contradict Turkey’s rights and interests were addressed by the Ministry. They stated that issues contrary to national rights and international laws have been identified in the exercise planning document.
Efforts are being made to modify the document to align with Turkey’s sensitivities, and negotiations at the North Atlantic Council level are ongoing. Turkey’s exploration company will continue to participate in the national Dacia exercise of Romania, and elements in NATO task groups will remain committed to the Steadfast Dart exercise as per NATO agreements.
