Mubashshir Ahmad Freed from Deportation Center in Turkey

Alisher Tursunov, also known as Mubashshir Ahmad, the founder of the analytical news portal Azon Global, was detained in Türkiye on December 28, 2023. However, reports now confirm that he has been released as of February 21.

The Uzbek citizen was taken by Turkish police from his residence and placed in the Binkılıç Deportation Center in the Çatalca district of Istanbul Province. The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Türkiye confirmed his return to his family from the deportation center on February 21.

Mubashshir Ahmad was detained on suspicions of posing a threat to public safety. Uzbek diplomats in Türkiye visited him at the place of his detention to speak with him and assess the conditions of his confinement. The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul has provided appropriate consular and legal assistance to him.

It is worth noting that in August 2023, Mubashshir Ahmad announced the cessation of work of the Azon.uz website that he founded in Uzbekistan. Later in November, he launched the Azon Global portal, which operates in Uzbek, Russian, English, and Turkish languages.
