Ukraine Faces Fresh Wave of Russian Attacks on Constitution Day
As Ukrainians celebrated Constitution Day on June 28, the people of southern and eastern regions were met with a new wave of drone and artillery strikes from Moscow for the second consecutive day. The attacks resulted in the tragic deaths of at least four individuals in a village in the Donetsk region, one person in Dnipropetrovsk, and multiple injuries in Kharkiv, according to Ukrainian officials.
The assault on Toretsk in the Donetsk region had a devastating impact, as an apartment building was struck by Russian troops, resulting in the destruction of the building’s entrance. Tragically, four civilians, ranging in age from 43 to 76, lost their lives in the attack. Additionally, a 39-year-old woman and her 8-year-old daughter sustained injuries, with the young girl in critical condition.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, an attack on a nine-story apartment building in Dnipro led to the loss of one life and injuries to six others, including a 7-month-old infant, as confirmed by Dnipropetrovsk regional Governor Serhiy Lysak. The governor noted that several floors of the building were destroyed in the assault.
Kharkiv also fell victim to the vicious attacks, with the village of Tsyrkuny facing heavy fire from Russian troops. Governor Oleh Synyehubov reported that at least eight individuals were injured in the attack, during which at least three anti-aircraft missiles were fired at the settlement, causing significant damage to homes and buildings.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the attacks and emphasized the urgent need for improved air defense capabilities to protect Ukraine from further aggression. He stressed the importance of international support in ensuring the country’s security and called for a reliable air shield to safeguard Ukraine’s sovereignty.
As the violence continued, Zelenskiy reaffirmed the strength and resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of adversity, highlighting the unity and determination of the nation in defending its values and freedoms. He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by those on the front lines and commended all those who stood unwavering in their support of Ukraine.
Amidst the ongoing conflict, Russia escalated its attacks on Ukrainian territories, targeting cities like Nikopol and Kherson with successive waves of strikes. Ukrainian forces retaliated with their own drone attacks, causing disruptions to Russian infrastructure in regions such as Tambov and Bryansk.
As the situation remains tense and volatile, the international community continues to monitor and respond to developments in the region, with hopes for a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
