Municipal Court Rules on Budapest Deputy Mayor Election Violation

The Municipal Court ruled on Tuesday that the Budapest municipality was at fault for not electing a deputy mayor, in a non-binding decision. The court addressed a lawsuit brought by the government office of Budapest against the municipal government.
According to the court’s statement, the municipal government failed to fulfill its legal obligation to select at least one councillor as deputy mayor. The defendant did not dispute their legal duty or the misconduct, but instead raised procedural concerns. They argued that the court did not have the authority in this case and that the lawsuit should have been directed at the Budapest general assembly.
However, the court dismissed these arguments as lacking merit. The ruling can be appealed within 15 days, as per the court’s announcement.
In other news, the Budapest Assembly recently discussed topics such as Pride events, railway privatization, and municipal transparency. For more details on these debates, you can find them HERE.
