Murder Suspect Claims Shooting Due to Pressure to Retract Complaint
Fatal Shooting in Yüreğir District: Suspect Arrested
Adana, Turkey – In a shocking incident that occurred on the evening of August 16, 2022, two individuals were shot in the Şehit Erkut Akbay District of Yüreğir district. The victims, Yusuf Gül and Ramazan S., were sitting on the pavement near a playground when an unidentified attacker approached them and opened fire with a concealed pistol.
Gül sustained a gunshot wound to the head, while Ramazan S. was hit in the back. The suspect quickly fled the scene before authorities could arrive. Upon receiving an emergency notification, both medical and police teams were dispatched to the area.
The injured victims were promptly provided with medical assistance and were rushed to the hospital. Sadly, despite the doctors’ best efforts, Yusuf Gül succumbed to his injuries.
Subsequent investigations conducted by the Homicide Bureau teams, based on evidence collected at the crime scene, revealed that the suspect responsible for the shooting was identified as Buğra Saban. Through technical surveillance, law enforcement discovered that Saban was hiding at a location in Mersin. An operation was swiftly carried out, leading to the arrest of Buğra Saban, who was then brought back to Adana for further questioning.
During his testimony, Saban confessed to the crime, stating, “I was injured in a previous altercation involving Yusuf’s family. I have filed a complaint against them. There was a longstanding feud between us, and they exerted pressure and made threats to withdraw my complaint. Unable to bear the situation any longer, I resorted to shooting.” Following the necessary legal procedures, Buğra Saban was taken to the courthouse and subsequently remanded in custody by the presiding judge.
The community has been deeply affected by this tragedy, and residents are expressing their condolences to the family and friends of Yusuf Gül. Authorities assure the public that they are committed to ensuring justice is served and that all necessary measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
