Mingbulok District Court Chairman Arrested for Accepting Bribe
The chairman of the Mingbulok district court on criminal proceedings has been arrested for accepting a bribe from the defendant’s father, according to the Supreme Court press secretary. The incident occurred at a quick event held on January 30, 2024, where the court chairman, identified as Sh.S., was detained while receiving $2,000 from the defendant’s father V.S. The defendant was charged with Article 167-3, Paragraph “a” and other articles of the Criminal Code, and in exchange for the money, Sh.S. promised to impose a lighter sentence on the defendant.
Following this event, the Supreme Court Plenum held a meeting on January 31, 2024, to consider the submission of the Prosecutor General regarding the liability of the court chairman under Article 210 of the Criminal Code for bribery. The Plenum approved the application of preventive measures in the form of “imprisonment” against the chairman.
This incident comes after the arrest of the judge of Yashnabad district court in Tashkent city, who was detained for accepting $4,000 as a bribe. These cases highlight the ongoing issue of corruption within the judiciary system.
