National Leader of Turkmenistan meets with President of Qatari Olympic Committee
The National Leader of Turkmen of Turkmen, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Hero-Arkadag recently met with the President of the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani. The meeting took place on April 2, 2025, where both leaders exchanged congratulations and best wishes for the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Fitr.
During the meeting, Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani conveyed greetings and well wishes from the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, to the National Leader of the Turkmen people. Hero-Arkadag reciprocated the warm sentiments and expressed his confidence that the visit of Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani to Turkmenistan will enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of sports.
Turkmenistan has a strong history of participation in international sports cooperation and the Olympic movement, with successful events like the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games held in Ashgabat in 2017. The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan emphasized the country’s commitment to partnership with international sports organizations, modern infrastructure development, and creating favorable conditions for athletes.
The meeting between the two leaders was seen as a significant step in elevating sports cooperation to new heights and promoting the development of the Olympic movement. Hero-Arkadag also extended an invitation to the Qatari side to participate in an International Forum in Ashgabat in December to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the country’s permanent neutrality.
Both leaders expressed mutual appreciation for each other’s contributions to enhancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and Qatar in the field of sports. The meeting concluded with the exchange of best wishes between the National Leader of Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani.
