Nearly Half of Calls to Emergency Number 112 Are False, Study Finds
The 2023 2nd Ordinary Emergency Call Services Provincial Coordination Commission Meeting took place at the 112 Emergency Call Center Directorate, chaired by Governor Orhan Tavlı. The meeting was attended by board members and focused on the progress and performance of the emergency call center. Prior to the meeting, Governor Orhan Tavlı visited the 112 Emergency Call Center to gain insight into their operations.
During the meeting, Governor Tavlı highlighted the importance of the 112 Emergency Call Center’s role in ensuring prompt response to emergencies. Since January 1, 2023, the center has received a significant number of calls, reaching a total of 1,332,537. However, it was revealed that a staggering 43 percent of these calls were false alarms.
Governor Tavlı emphasized the critical nature of time in emergency situations and urged the public not to make false calls to the 112 emergency number. By refraining from such actions, the use of the emergency hotline can be reserved for those in urgent need of assistance.
The 112 Emergency Call Center plays a vital role in coordinating emergency response teams and ensuring effective assistance to those in need. Governor Tavlı’s visit and involvement in the coordination commission meeting demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving emergency services and reducing false calls.
As the 112 Emergency Call Center continues its operations, efforts must be made to raise public awareness about the consequences of making false calls. Every call made should be taken seriously to ensure that the emergency response teams can efficiently assist those in genuine emergencies.
It is the responsibility of the public to use emergency services judiciously and responsibly. Each false call places an unnecessary burden on the system and can hinder genuine emergency cases. Let us all be mindful of this and only use the 112 emergency number when it is genuinely needed, so that swift help can reach those who require it the most.
