Banská Bystrica Region and Nógrád County to Organize Bus Services Between Regions

In a recent meeting held at the County Hall of Nógrád in Salgótarján, representatives from the municipalities of Banská Bystrica Region and Nógrád County discussed the organization of bus services between the regions. The meeting was attended by officials from Hungarian transport company Volánbusz and the integrated transport company of Banská Bystrica.

The bus services will connect several towns and cities on both sides, with Hungarian destinations including Balassagyarmat, Ipolytarnóc, Salgótarján, and Cered in Nógrád, as well as Bánrév in Borsod County. On the Slovakian side, the services will cover Rimavská Sobota, Lučenec, Veľký Krtíš, and Tornaľa.

During a press conference following the meeting, it was announced that the development of the public transport system would be completed in two years, with services potentially starting as early as next spring. However, details regarding the frequency of services and pricing are yet to be determined.

Ondrej Lunter, head of the County Council of Banská Bystrica Region, emphasized that both parties will finance their own commitments and work together to create a budget that accommodates the operation, even if it may result in losses. He highlighted the historical connection between the regions, which was disrupted by the “Trianon border,” impacting travel, trade, and social interactions.

Nándor Skuczi, president of the Nógrád County Assembly, emphasized the importance of strengthening economic, trade, social, cultural, and tourist ties between the regions, highlighting the role of improved transport infrastructure in achieving this goal.

The initiative aims to enhance connectivity between Banská Bystrica Region and Nógrád County, fostering closer cooperation and promoting regional development.
