New Decree Published in Official Gazette: General Directorate of Diplomatic Security
A new decree published in the Official Gazette has established the “General Directorate of Diplomatic Security” within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Turkey. This addition, outlined in the Presidential Decree, aims to enhance security measures for the Ministry’s headquarters, domestic facilities, and Turkish missions abroad.
The responsibilities and authorities of the General Directorate of Diplomatic Security include safeguarding the physical security of Ministry buildings, conducting relevant security operations, and ensuring cyber, communication, document, and information security within the Ministry and its overseas entities. Additionally, the Directorate will be tasked with addressing terrorist threats and coordinating security measures for diplomatic personnel and facilities.
Furthermore, the General Directorate of Diplomatic Security will collaborate with relevant institutions, provide security training to Ministry staff and other public officials deployed abroad, and conduct security analyses of foreign diplomatic offices. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of National Defense, or other relevant agencies will provide the necessary security personnel and equipment to support the Directorate’s work.
The selection, training, and management of security personnel within the General Directorate of Diplomatic Security will be overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Detailed guidelines regarding the Directorate’s functions, as well as procedures for acquiring personnel and equipment, will be established through regulation.
This new decree underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing security measures for Turkey’s diplomatic missions and personnel both domestically and abroad. The establishment of the General Directorate of Diplomatic Security reflects the importance of safeguarding diplomatic operations and personnel in an increasingly complex global landscape.
