New Flight Routes Connecting Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara to Kokand Starting July 15

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has given instructions to develop projects in tourism and related fields in the Fergana region. During a meeting on the socio-economic development of the region, the President highlighted the potential for tourism services, especially through simplified border crossing agreements with neighboring Kyrgyzstan.

In 2023, over 400 thousand foreigners visited the enclaves of Shohimardon and Yardan in the Fergana region. However, due to the current border crossing restrictions at “Vodil” and “Ak-kiya,” tourists have to take a longer route through Osh. By addressing this issue, projects worth $100 million can be implemented in these areas.

One of the planned projects is the creation of an eco-tourist complex near the Karkidon reservoir. This complex will include a modern hotel, a recreation area, and over 100 retail, service, and entertainment facilities. Additionally, plans involve planting orchards of cherries, peaches, and apricots on 1.6 thousand hectares of land near the reservoir.

Another project includes the development of a $40 million worth of retail and service facilities in the Kuva district along the Fergana-Andijan highway. The President has tasked officials with developing a master plan for the area and creating a comprehensive two-year development program.

Furthermore, plans are underway to establish an open-air museum called “Shahriston Kubosi” in Kuva and introduce a stop for the Tashkent-Andijan train in the city. Regular flights from Kokand to Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara will also commence from July 15.

To promote tourism around the Tepakurgan archaeological site, 10 billion UZS will be allocated. The Faculty of Tourism at Kokand University will introduce foreign educational programs to enhance tourism education in the region.

Moreover, Margilan will see the opening of five new hotels, a maqom theater, and over 50 retail and service establishments. A tourist zone will be established in the “Pichokchi” mahalla, with the city mayor tasked with attracting over $300 million in investments.

These initiatives aim to boost tourism and economic growth in the Fergana region, offering new opportunities for development and creating a vibrant destination for both domestic and international travelers.
