New Kyrgyz Flag Raised at Bishkek Square

The Kyrgyz Republic recently hoisted a new national flag on Ala-Too square in Bishkek, as reported by 24.kg on Jan. 3. The event also included the renovation of the guard of honor cabin.

President Sadyr Japarov gave his endorsement to the updated national flag, which had been approved by the Parliament on Dec. 20. The alteration in the flag’s design, initiated by Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiev and MP Ulan Primov, includes a shift from wavy to straight rays.

The new flag features 39 rays, a change from the previous flag, which had 40 rays symbolizing the unity of 40 ancient tribes in forming the country. President Japarov assured during the second People’s Kurultai (congress) that this change would not incur expenses from the national budget.

In addition to the flag change, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic has officially designated the snow leopard as a national symbol through a decree, according to the press service of the country’s leader.

The new flag and the designation of the snow leopard as a national symbol represent important symbolic changes for the Kyrgyz Republic, reflecting the country’s heritage and identity.
