New Law Allows Fathers to Take Paid Paternity Leave
A new draft law in Uzbekistan proposes granting working men short-term leave with pay to assist their spouses and care for their other children when they welcome a new child. The draft law, titled “On Amendments and Additions to the Labor Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” was discussed in the lower house of parliament.
Deputy Nodir Tilavoldiev announced the provisions of the draft law, which would allow working men to take up to 5 days of short-term leave within a month when they have a child. This leave is intended to help men balance their professional responsibilities with family duties, a provision that was not previously available under national legislation.
The draft law aims to improve the Labor Code by incorporating principles of labor rights equality, as well as prohibiting discrimination, harassment, and violence in the workplace. Employers will have the authority to reassign or dismiss employees who engage in or threaten harassment or violence against others at work.
Moreover, the draft law will include victims of domestic violence in the list of socially vulnerable groups, providing them with additional guarantees to support their employment. This move signifies a step towards ensuring a more inclusive and supportive work environment for all individuals.
