New North-South Road Opening Date Announced by Transport Ministry
Commissioning of the new North-South road between Issyk-Kul and Jalal-Abad is scheduled for spring 2025, according to the First Deputy Minister of Transport Talantbek Soltobaev. Speaking at a briefing, Soltobaev stated that 95 percent of the construction work on the tunnel at Kok-Art pass has been completed, with the remaining work expected to be finished by November.
The total length of the new route will be 453 kilometers, providing a much-needed alternative transportation route in the region. Construction on the alternative North-South road began back in 2014, with the project costing $850 million and being spearheaded by Kyrgyzdortransproekt.
Once completed, the new road is expected to significantly improve connectivity and transportation options between Issyk-Kul and Jalal-Abad, benefiting both locals and travelers alike. Stay tuned for further updates on this important infrastructure project.
