New Pilots Complete the H225M Helicopter Retraining Program

The Hungarian Defense Forces József Kiss 86th Helicopter Brigade is currently undergoing a retraining program for the H225M helicopter type, with new pilots completing their training, as reported by honvedelem.hu.

A group of new pilots began their practical flight training on the new aircraft type on February 28. These pilots, although not newcomers, had previously showcased their skills on the H145M helicopter.

The training program involves theoretical and simulator blocks, with 26 helicopter pilots and eight on-board technicians participating. The theoretical and simulator training will be held at the Airbus Helicopters training center in France, followed by practical basic and advanced flight training in Szolnok, Hungary, with support from Airbus’ instructors.

Airbus has established a significant partnership with the Hungarian Defense Forces, using the ongoing reform of the armed forces in Hungary as an opportunity to test and improve its rotary wing aircraft. This collaboration is crucial for the Defense Forces, as Airbus will replace outdated Soviet-era helicopters with advanced aircraft suitable for military and civilian purposes. The Airbus helicopters will come equipped with a specialized armament package tailored for the Hungarian Air Force, including a 20 mm machine gun, a 70 mm missile container, and potential guided anti-tank missiles in the future.

These enhancements will provide the Hungarian Air Force with capabilities not currently available with existing technology, significantly enhancing its operational effectiveness. Last year, six new H225M helicopters were delivered to the corps, further expanding the Defense Forces’ helicopter fleet.
