New Release: “There is no holding back from Demirkubuz… You will suffer!” by Ulaş Işıklar

Associate Professor Ulaş Işıklar, known for his work in academic cinema reviews, has recently published a new book titled “There is no Demirkubuz Way… You Will Shoot!”. The book, released under the label Doruk Publications in February 2024, delves into the world of auteur director Zeki Demirkubuz through a combination of film analysis and biographical memoir.
As a faculty member at Istanbul Beykent University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Cinema and TV, Ulaş Işıklar provides readers with a unique perspective on Demirkubuz’s films. Drawing on his personal experiences with the director, dating back to their first encounter during Işıklar’s doctoral thesis writing phase, the book offers a glimpse into both the cinematic creations and the life journey of Zeki Demirkubuz.
Işıklar’s analysis revolves around the theme of nihilism, exploring Demirkubuz’s works such as “Fate”, “Waiting Room”, and “Nausea” within the existential philosophical canon. The book delves into the philosophical teachings of renowned thinkers like Nietzsche, Cioran, Deleuze, Camus, and Sartre to provide a comprehensive understanding of the director’s creative vision.
A unique highlight of the book is an exclusive interview with Zeki Demirkubuz, never before published, which adds a biographical dimension to the film analysis. Additionally, the inclusion of photographs featuring Ulaş Işıklar and Zeki Demirkubuz at various moments and locations adds depth to the narrative.
Published by Doruk Publications in Istanbul, the book is available as of February 2024 with an ISBN of 978-625-6898-50-9. With a certificate number of 48083, the publication was prepared by Niyazi Koçak, with cover design by Doruk Can Koçak and page design by Fatma İrem Erol. Readers can expect a thought-provoking journey through the cinematic and personal realms of Zeki Demirkubuz in Ulaş Işıklar’s latest literary work.
