New Standards for Evaluating Computer Environmental Impact Introduced

Major PC manufacturers are adopting new standards for assessing the environmental friendliness of their products following the presentation of the concept of a Green PC by Intel and its partners earlier this year. The Green PC, which is 90% recyclable, has sparked a movement towards more sustainable computing practices in the industry.

The new standard includes five main evaluation criteria, each of which is assessed based on a set of indicators at different levels. This classification system, which will first be implemented in China and later in the United States, aims to provide consumers with a clear understanding of the environmental impact of the PCs they purchase.

The top five criteria for the Green PC designation are Design Definition, Production Delivery, Use & Maintenance, Recyclability, and an additional bonus criterion. Devices will be classified as Green PC Bronze, Silver, or Gold based on their total score, with only those scoring 90 points or above receiving the prestigious Green PC Gold designation.

In conjunction with the introduction of the new classification system, Intel has announced several upcoming “green” PCs from leading manufacturers such as Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, H3C, Panlong, and Tongfang. These PCs are designed to meet the highest environmental standards while still delivering top-notch performance and functionality.

The move towards more sustainable computing practices by major manufacturers is a positive step towards reducing electronic waste and minimizing the environmental impact of the technology industry. With the introduction of Green PCs and the adoption of new standards, consumers can make more informed choices when purchasing their next computer.

Overall, the future looks bright for environmentally friendly computing, and the industry is taking significant strides towards a more sustainable future.
